My name is Rachel I'm the founder and chief maker at Sparkly & Co. My background is in Textiles and fashion which I studied at Winchester School of Art. I went on to work in bespoke tailoring and was sadly made redundant as part of the financial crisis. Unable to find a way back into the industry I worked in offices and with dogs but when I had my little girl it become clear that I need to do something I really loved to drag me away from her.
A chance encounter with an old school roller towel dispenser in August 2019 lead to some questions (what do people do with the old ones? What's the lifespan of these things?), some answers (OMG landfill! Really?), the purchase of an old roller towel and an over locker. What followed was me waving samples of cloth wipes at anyone who would pay attention/didn't run fast enough. The champion ladies of West Surrey Sling Library bore the brunt of this. A few weeks after that I was drafting CSP patterns and undies.
I was on a roll.
I have a passion for fabric and beautiful prints. I'm a bit of a magpie so there's a lot of goth, some cute, tonnes of rainbow and the odd dinosaur in space in my collection.
In my spare time I ride, read, walk with my dog, play computer games and try to find time to draw and do some personal sewing.
You may find random pop culture referances, scienfiction quotes and deeply dry humour within the text of this website. If you were born in the 80s most of these will make sense, if not just put it down to madness.
